r/incels || part 3 - the examples

Alright folks, we're moving into more of the examples, this part isn't going to be long, as it is incredibly difficult to find examples that aren't incredibly and utterly disgusting! I also want to preface this by saying that all of these are very specific examples and aren't necessarily the thoughts of the majority but they serve my purposes well!!

Oh here we are, starting off ... strong ... with figure 1. The good-looking guy is referring to a Chad in this context, and the ugly guy is referring to incels (we know how much incel-dom is tied to looks!). This (at least to my understanding of fractal recursivity - limited as it may be, I'm trying my best) is fractal recursivity at it's finest. It's also this creation of identity through contrast to a different group. When looking on as an outsider to the community, a lot of these seem incredibly unrealistic and untrue. This also once again is this play into incels emasculating themselves, playing the victim in order to garner some kind of pity that might fix their problem or get them love, when they are sorely mistaken, them labelling themselves, and forming identities that associate them with sexual assault and general creepiness and awfulness is counterintuitive to their original problem. But also, besides this dichotomy between Chads and incels, this also imposes identification onto women as well, claiming this is what most women would think when this is clearly unrealistic as well.

We have a juicy example of indexicality, fractal recursivity, and just ... the pursuit of masculinity in general. We see that this particular user categorizes incels as rational, and normies as emotional. We've seen this distinction before (not surprisingly) in the recursive language to describe binary men and women. Men are rational, women are emotional. We see this furthered in the next sentence: 'incels are masculine, Normies are feminine'. They indexed these 'standard' forms of masculinity and femininity that we see in context with the emotional/rational statement. I actually find this interesting because there is a clear divide between incels who tend to pity themselves and essentially emasculate themselves, and the incels that speak like this. The rest of the post is pretty much garbage!

Alright, I found a good example of how sexuality also factors into things here. This right here is a a really - and I mean really - strong example of a 'no homo' if I've ever seen one. It's a no homo that isn't necessarily reciprocated by the other conversational partner though, it's really just an aggressive case of one-sided heterosexism and this hyper vigilance to maintain the appearance of being straight. There's a lot of hedging going on in the red users responses to blue, saying that the blue user won't like the idea (in the end we find out because it's not heterosexual in nature). Red's solution is to sleep with feminine gay guys. The feminine part really brings up how this particular person understands how 'feminine' gay men perform masculinity, or fail to perform masculinity. That brings up the question of whether feminine gay men are really men at all which is something that is not specific to incels or even the internet. Blue's response to this solution is quite the opposite of what most would expect from this aggressively masculine subreddit, which is why I'm thinking that Red's response was still trying to reinforce the whole 'no homo' thing. Red is trying to reinforce his self proclaimed heterosexuality by saying he fantasizes about women and specifically chooses feminine men. This appeal to a "standard masculinity" which includes and is conditioned on heterosexuality is evident even when the behaviour isn't "straight" at all.

That's all the examples I'm going to include here, for the sake of myself and you guys. Posts that aren't completely abhorrent and disgusting are few and far between, so I hope you'll understand the lack of more examples in this particular part. There are several strewn through other parts.

Next is part 4 - the relevance. This part focuses on some real world repercussions of this violent language use. It's an unfortunate but important part. I wish this stuff could just stay contained to the internet but unfortunately that is not the case.
